Sneak Treats

When our kids were quite young we started a tradition of doing the 12 days of Christmas for someone.  Sometimes it was good friends and sometimes it was a family that we thought might need some cheering up.  Each night for the 12 nights leading up to Christmas we would drop off some kind of a treat, or a decoration, or some item we thought would be useful to them. Emoji These became known as "sneak treats" as we would try very hard to not get caught.  If we thought they were starting to suspect us, we would go to great lengths to throw them off, such as having a neighbor kid drop it off, or someone they didn't know ring the doorbell and hand it to them, or anything we could think of to keep the suspense going.  But then there were some families who also went to great lengths to catch us.  For example, one family set up a video camera and they did catch our youngest daughter delivering.  Obviously, this was back in the old days before security cameras!  Oh, times change! Emoji  There was a little work involved getting everything ready but we tried to keep it simple.  It was an awesome tradition that involved our whole family and created so much fun, excitement and joy in giving without worrying about getting anything in return. Emoji  Many of the families we "treated" went on to treat other families in the following years.  Emoji

That was the best gift of all!

If you are starting your 12 days of Christmas tonight we wish you luck in not getting caught!
