Creativity

There's just something magical about a brand new box of crayons.  Remember? Think about opening that box for the first time.  Remember how it smelled?   How it felt?  Think about the variety of colors all sharpened to a beautiful even point.  Magic.   It's magic because, really, it's a box of  possibilities.

When my husband was growing up there were never coloring books in the house.  But there was a drawer full of blank paper and a big box of crayons.   We did the same thing when our kids came along and now the tradition continues for our grandkids.

Picasso said that "All kids are artists.  The problem is how to remain an artist once they grow up."    We wanted our kids to remain artists so we've tried to encourage their creativity in every way we can.

Being creative can apply to all areas of our lives.  Our homes, our yards, the way we eat, the way we dress, it can even be in the way we exercise or do our work.  It's all how you look at it.

When winter melts into spring and the clean up of old leaves and debris is done, I feel like our back yard looks like a blank canvas waiting to be painted with flowers, lights, and colorful furniture.

Have you ever thrown together a pot of veggies to cook?  Orange carrots, red tomatoes, green peppers, white onions?  It's a masterpiece not only to see, but to smell and taste as well!

What about being brave enough to wear a new color, or a new style?

Franklin Roosevelt said, "Happiness is in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort."

What can you create today?

arrange a bowl of fresh fruit

create a new dance for exercise

rearrange your living room furniture

decorate a cake

organize your desk in a different way

write a song or poem

cook something you've never tried before

do a 30 day photo challenge with your phone

"The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul."  Dieter F. Uchtdorf

If you still can't decide on anything....get a box of crayons and a piece of paper. Use all the colors or use one color.  You decide. It's your masterpiece.

Create and feel joy!
